Worship in our beautiful sanctuary takes place every Sunday at 10:30 am. We gather to open our lives to God’s presence, to receive God’s love and nourishment through Word and Sacrament, to sing and pray, to offer our gifts, our needs, our thanks, and ourselves in service to God and our neighbors. Samples of our Sunday Service are provided here.
Activity packets which contain a children’s bulletins and crayons are provided for children.
Sunday worship is followed by a time of fellowship where we share a simple meal provided by members of the congregation. At table together, we open our lives to one another
Special Worship Services are held on Christmas Eve, Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, Easter, and Thanksgiving.
In the four weeks prior to Christmas and the six weeks prior to Easter, Wednesday evening vespers services are offered. Combining a shared meal which includes the Lord’s Supper, prayer, singing, contemplative reflection on Biblical texts, and (for some) drawing, these services provide room for rest, community, and physical and spiritual nourishment.
In the summer of 2013, the Old Dutch Church began a process of reconciliation and healing from the relational breaks that resulted from the bloody conflicts between the Dutch and Native Americans during the colonial period in the Hudson Valley. One of the fruits of our monthly meals and conversations is our annual Native American Thanksgiving Service on the Sunday prior to Thanksgiving Day. The Service includes a Native American Smudging Ceremony, a Green Corn Ceremony, singing, drumming, scripture reading and celebration of the Lord’s Supper. Following the Service all are invited to share a Thanksgiving meal with more drumming and circle dancing.
